The site claims that Plantfiles is the largest plant database in the world, and it ought to be - it's has been compiled by 26,514 gardeners from around the world. Gardeners share both their knowledge and their experience, ie "Here is how this particular plant did in my garden in this particular location". Founded in 2000, I would certainly look at this as something of a proto-Wikipedia.
