I'm in MFA school for creative writing (fiction) and I notice in my latest workshop that the people who chose to turn in an extra story at the end of the semester had all made a significant leap forward. They all had simply written better stories on round three. Some were second year students, some were first year, some were what I think of as strong writers, some weren't. Every one of them got better.

My conclusion - write 4 short stories this summer - one every three weeks.
