Try reading aloud. I found that helped me when I was reading the Canterbury Tales (and even Shakespeare sometimes).

No, I agree with you. That's exactly how I got through my Chaucer class in college, but it's such a long time since then....
And then there's reading it out loud, but as Chaucer would have pronounced it. I used to think that Monty Python was kidding around when they pronounced "knight" something like "kunigit," but then I took Chaucer. I wish I had my old pronunciation key around. Yes, I am an English nerd!
