Use the public library: It's amazing how much money I've saved since I started to borrow books instead of running out to buy them. I might have to wait a few weeks to get a new release, but it's worth it, especially when I find that a book is a dud. And if I really like a book or want it close by for reference, then I can buy my own copy.
Absolutely agreed. I've been touting the use of the library bookmarket for years. Some books really need only a skim for me to know they're not what I'm looking for, or to extract their one or two good ideas. Those books are fine borrows, but total duds if you were to buy it.
