about rebecca blood
My name is Rebecca Blood, and this is my website, Rebecca's Pocket. My site consists of a weblog, some articles, and pages and pages of links on various things that interest me. I've been maintaining all of it since April 1999. I update my weblog rather sporadically since the birth of my baby; someday that will change.
Rebecca's Pocket is devoted to highlighting whatever catches my attention, and I'm interested in lots of things. Some recurring themes are food and culture, genre, gender, film, literature, sustainability, and domestic life.. I'm keenly interested in video games as an emerging narrative form. Contradictions intrigue me. In thinking about technology, I tend to be a pragmatist, not a promoter. My interest is in the intersection between technology and human behavior: how people use technologies and how technologies influence what they do. I am fascinated with unintended consequences. I post the occasional recipe.
In the autumn of 2001 Perseus Publishing asked if I'd be interested in writing a book on weblogs; of course I said yes. The Weblog Handbook: Practical Advice on Creating and Maintaining Your Blog was published in July 2002. Less than a year later it went into its second printing. Since publishing my book, I've been invited to write for numerous publications, and to speak around the world about blogs and the Internet's impact on business, media, and society. Please email me if you'd like me to speak at your event or organization.
I sometimes accept review copies of books. I can't promise to favorably review any book that I read or to review it on any sort of timeline. If, in spite of all that, you're interested in sending me a copy of your new book, please consult the list at the right to see the topics I am most interested in reading about at the moment.
I have a BA in English, and I've held more jobs than you have, including (but not limited to) waitress, nanny, actress, secretary, boat-builder's assistant, evil telemarketer, film production assistant, personal driver, film extra, caterer, web designer, administrative director for a non-profit media arts center, and 'Special Forces' for a small regional magazine. Thanks to my weblog, I can now add to that list, author and speaker. I'm still interested in acting and filmmaking, so get in touch if you have a project you'd like me to consider. I currently live in San Francisco.
I'm unable to answer all the email I receive, but I read every piece. If you're interested in having me write for you, having me speak at your event, or if you'd just like to interview me, please contact me at the appropriate address below.
